January 2026 Meeting

Our next meeting is at 2pm on December 13th at Holy Rosary Religious Ed Building, Milam St in Houston.

Our group study will be on Chapter 3 of Abiding the Long Defeat by Conor Sweeney.

After that Inquirers will discuss Chapter 3 on the history of the Dominican Laity, as well as chapters 3-4 of Dominicana. Candidates will discuss Ch 1-10 of the book on St Martin de Porres. Temp professed will discuss Ch 7-8 of the Gospel of John and pages 135-170 of the commentary. Professed will discuss Ch 2 of the essay “The Philisophical Act” in the book Leisure the Basis of Culture.

We will end the meeting by heading across the street to pray Evening Prayer. We will pray in the Church beginning promptly at 4:15 in order to be finished for the beginning of the Rosary at 4:35.

December 2025 Meeting

Candidates will discuss Ch 8-11 of the book on St Rose of Lima. Temp professed will discuss Ch 5-6 of the Gospel of John and pages 96-134 of the commentary. Professed will discuss Ch 1 of the essay “The Philisophical Act” in the book Leisure the Basis of Culture.

September 2025 Meeting

Our next meeting is at 2pm on September 13th at Holy Rosary Religious Ed Building, Milam St in Houston.

Instead of the usual format, the September meeting is a “Come and See” for anyone who is considering inquiring for admission in the coming year. It is an opportunity to meet members of the Chapter, ask questions and learn about the process of Inquiry that begins in October and ends potentially with admission next August.

We will pray Evening Prayer 1 for the Exaltation of the Cross in the meeting room instead of in the Church. After that we will have the Chapter elections at which all admitted members are expected to be present.

Rites of Admission 2025

Fr Juan Torres O.P. is presiding over the Rites of admission, temporary promise and perpetual promise for the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Chapter on Aug 23, the Memorial of St Rose of Lima, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Milam St in Houston at 9:30AM. There will be a reception from 11AM to 100 PM in the Parish Hall. The chapter welcomes all who wish to celebrate with us.

August 2025 Meeting

Our next meeting is at 2pm on August 9th at Holy Rosary Religious Ed Building, Milam St in Houston.

Our group discussion will be on the Rights and Responsibilities as Lay Dominicans. Inquirers will discuss Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 on contemplative prayer and devotion to Mary as Pillars of Dominican life. Candidates will continue to discuss St Thomas Aquinas chapters 5-8. Promised will have Lectio Divina or discuss Chapters 1-2 of Joseph Pieper’s Liesure the Basis of Culture.

We will end the meeting by heading across the street to pray Evening Prayer for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary time.. We will pray in the Church beginning promptly at 4:15 in order to be finished for the beginning of the Rosary at 4:35.

July 2025 Meeting

Our next meeting is at 2pm on July 12th at Holy Rosary Religious Ed Building, Milam St in Houston.

Our group discussion will be on the Rights of Workers and the Dignity of Work.

Inquirers will discuss Chapter 9 on Dominican art. Candidates will continue to discuss St Thomas Aquinas. Promised will discuss My Way of Life pages 553-604 or the chapters 36-41 of The Church and the Land by Vincent McNabb O.P. (free online version).

We will end the meeting by heading across the street to pray Evening Prayer for the15th Sunday in Ordinary time.. We will pray in the Church beginning promptly at 4:15 in order to be finished for the beginning of the Rosary at 4:35.

November 2024 Meeting

Our next meeting is at 2pm on November 9th at Holy Rosary Religious Ed Building, Milam St in Houston.

Our group discussion will be on the encyclical Evangelium Vitae by Pope John Paul II on the sanctity of human life.

Inquirers will discuss Chapter 1 on the place of study in the ideal of St Dominic. Candidates will discuss the next chapter of the book about St Catherine of Sienna. Promised will continue the 6th-10th articles under Question 82 in Part 3 of the Summa Theologica on the ministers of the Holy Eucharist.

We will end the meeting by heading across the street to pray Evening Prayer of Office of the Dead especially for Dr. Thomas Brzustowicz OP and Melvin Phipps. We will pray in the Church beginning promptly at 4:15 in order to be finished for the beginning of the Rosary at 4:35.

October 2024 Meeting

Our next meeting is at 2pm on October 12th at Holy Rosary Religious Ed Building, Milam St in Houston.

Our group discussion with Fr Juan will be on the letter by Master of the Order Father Gerard Timoner, OP, entitled “Eucharist, Source, and Paradigm of Synodality.”

After that, Inquirers will have a brief orientation while candidates will begin Ch 1-3 of the book on St Rose of Lima. The professed will discuss either Ch 1-3 of “My Way of Life” or continue on the next chapter of Summa Theologica.

We will end the meeting by heading across the street to pray Evening Prayer in the Church beginning promptly at 4:15 in order to be finished for the beginning of the Rosary at 4:35.

Lenten Retreat

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, there will be a Lenten retreat given by Father Juan Torres, OP for
Lay Dominicans, spouses, and others who are interested. It will be held at Holy Name Retreat Center,
430 Bunker Hill Road, Houston, TX 77024, 8:00am – 5:00pm.

The retreat starts with a light breakfast, followed by the Divine Office Morning Prayer and celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Father Juan will give two reflections based on the book by Father Paul Murray, OP, A Journey with Jonah. Father will hear confessions and there will be time for prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The retreat will conclude with Evening Prayer. The cost of the retreat is $70. Lunch is included.
