Lenten Retreat

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, there will be a Lenten retreat given by Father Juan Torres, OP for
Lay Dominicans, spouses, and others who are interested. It will be held at Holy Name Retreat Center,
430 Bunker Hill Road, Houston, TX 77024, 8:00am – 5:00pm.

The retreat starts with a light breakfast, followed by the Divine Office Morning Prayer and celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Father Juan will give two reflections based on the book by Father Paul Murray, OP, A Journey with Jonah. Father will hear confessions and there will be time for prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The retreat will conclude with Evening Prayer. The cost of the retreat is $70. Lunch is included.

Feb 2023 Meeting

Our next meeting will be at 2pm on Feb 11th at Holy Rosary Religious Ed Building, Milam St in Houston.

Our book study and group discussion will be on chapters 3-4 of The Jewish Roots of the Eucharist.

Inquirers will discuss Chapter 5 on the purpose of the Dominican Laity. Candidates will continue discussion on the book about St Martin de Porres. Promised will discuss chapters 25 and 26 of the Gospel of Matthew.

Dec 2022 Meting

Our next meeting will be at 145pm on Dec 10 at Holy Rosary Religious Ed Building, Milam St in Houston.

Our book study and group discussion will be on chapters 7-8 of DOMINICAN SPIRITUALITY Principles and Practice By WILLIAM A. HINNEBUSCH, O.P.

Inquirers will discuss Chapter 3 on the History of the Dominican Laity. Candidates will discuss Chapters 8 and on of the book on St Rose of Lima. Promised will discuss chapters 21 and 22 of the Gospel of Matthew.

Nov 2022 Meeting

Our book study and group discussion will be on chapters 5-6 of DOMINICAN SPIRITUALITY Principles and Practice By WILLIAM A. HINNEBUSCH, O.P.

Inquirers will discuss Chapter 2 on the Pillars of Dominican Life. Candidates will discuss Chapters 5-7 of the book on St Rose of Lima. Promised will discuss chapters 19-21 of the Gospel of Matthew.

December 2019 Meeting

Candidates for admission will be finishing the book on St Rose of Lima chapters 8-11.

Professed members will discuss the Vatican II document on Divine Revelation,  Dei Verbum  The review questions can be accessed here and here.

We will have Lectio Divina on the readings for the 3rd Sunday of Lent and will conclude by praying Evening Prayer (Vespers) from the Liturgy of the Hours.  A printable file is available here that contains the Magnificat and antiphon already pointed so that it can be easily chanted.

Since this will be the last meeting before Christmas, we will have a white elephant exchange for those who would like to participate.  The gift should be a wrapped Christmas ornament that is under $5.  In addition, any donations from passing the hat around will be donated to one of the local friar’s education fund.  Finally, everyone is invited to bring some snacks for a celebratory potluck.

Professed members will discuss the Vatican II documents on non Christian religions, Nostra Aetate, and on Christian Education, Gravissimum Educationis.

A lecture on Purgatory will be given by Father David Seid O.P.

May 2019 Meeting

The group study will continue with a reflection on Part 3 of the “Introduction to the Devout Life” by St. Francis de Sales.

We will pray Evening Prayer of the Office for the Dead for our recently deceased founder, including chanting the hymn, Psalms and Magnificat.
